What a difference a year makes!
As the snow was coming down outside tonight, I was thinking about last year at this time when I was trying to make it in to town to attend the early Circle Group meetings. Wow! Armour has made so much progress since that time. When I look at the blog site, I see the results of our hard work in all the posts–a new parent-teachers group that is busy implementing things like a school breakfast program and hosting Internet safety clinics; a housing task force that is looking at purchasing lots and building up to three new homes; and a group looking at expanding recreational offerings at the Lions’ Park with the addition of new camping cabins! Wow! That is only the list from the last couple weeks. Think about how many things were done earlier and how many more people are now active in our community. A lot of progress has been made during the past year, and so much of it can be credited to the Horizons project. It really has been a mobilizing force in our community.

Horizons has also mobilized our community, however, we have had a struggle getting people to contribute to our blog site as commenters or users. I know people are using the Internet to read papers and shop, but they have not responded to the blog yet. How are you doing there? Judy in Tyndall

Hi Judy … same here. I can see from the counter on the site that people are eding, but comments are light. I also hear around town that people are reading it. I don’t know how to overcome the reluctance to post comments. We have five or six bloggers and everyone has been trying for at least one post per month. Susan

We have struggles to getting community members to comment on the blog too! However, it’s been getting better recently. We’ve also had a few more people posting too which has been nice. I just sent out an email tonight to everyone I have email addresses for in our town reminding them again about the blog and telling them I’d be happy to show them how to blog etc…. Also reminding them to post comments on the blog too! We are getting more people checking out the blog and stuff too which is great!!!

I am not overly concerned about people not commenting on the blog site. When I was at the newspaper, very few people sent in letters to the editor–I think it is just tough for many people to express their opinions in writing for “all to read.” That is just the nature of people. As long as people are reading the blog and discussing it, I think that is what counts.
