What can we learn from our neighbors?

October 22nd, 2007 by Susan

The Mitchell (South Dakota) Area Development Corporation recently launched a Web site aimed at luring people to move to Mitchell to fill open jobs. Take a few moments to browse the site by clicking the link in the previous sentence. What do you think?

Would a similar Web site be of benefit to Armour? One of the many discussions we’ve had during our Horizons meetings has been about attracting new residents to our community. Housing is also one of our long-term Horizons projects.

If you look beneath this post there is some tiny type. Look closely and you’ll see how many comments have been posted in response to this post. Don’t be shy. Click on the comments and it will open a new link for you to post your opinions. This blog is just another place for our Horizons dialog to continue.

I think we can definately learn from our neighbors. I agree that putting up some sort of lure on our web site to define the many jobs that we have in our area. Even if there are not openings right now I think we should still post what may be available to get people thinking about the future.

Mitchell’s Web site is, obviously, professional done. But one of our Horizons projects is to create a position for a Community Enrichment Officer. A project like movetomitchell.com would be a good responsibility for the CEO.

I think it would be a wonderful idea-What needs to be our next step?

We could contact local employers and survey them about whether they would use the site. Maybe we could invite someone from Mitchell who worked on their site to come here and meet with business owners.
